The 3rd Annual Civil Engineering Legislative Day Drive-In was held on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at the Alabama Department of Archives & History and the Alabama State House. The Alabama Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Council of Engineer Companies (ACEC) of Alabama teamed up to host the event! This year over 60 engineers descended on Montgomery to participate in the Legislative Day.
Senator Clyde Chambliss, P.E. and Representative Bill Poole who sponsored the Rebuild Alabama Act in their respective chambers spoke to the group about the details of the bill and the behind the scenes work that was done to get this much needed infrastructure legislation passed. The engineering attendees then made their way to the Alabama State House for the gallery viewing of the Senate and House Chambers. Lieutenant Governor Will Ainsworth came and spoke to the group for several minutes about how important it was for them to be there and involved with the legislative process. At the conclusion of the event, attendees visited with their representatives in order to thank the supporters of the Rebuild Alabama Act.
Lastly, Senator Chambliss stated “Don’t underestimate what your voice has in the outcome of legislation.” He challenged the attendees to build a relationship with their Representatives!
