At the 2019 ASCE Convention in Miami, Florida, Alabama State Senator Clyde Chambliss was awarded the Outstanding Public Official by the American Society of Civil Engineers. Senator Chambliss was selected by the Committee on Advancing the Profession to receive the prestigious honor for impeccable service to the State of Alabama and the Civil Engineering profession.
This award was created to recognize those members of the engineering profession who have rendered meritorious service in elective or appointive positions in government. The award is made to those members of ASCE, wherever resident, who have contributed substantially to the status of the engineering profession by meritorious public service in elective or appointive positions in civil government.
In 2014, Senator Chambliss was elected to office and reelected in 2018. In the 5 years that he has been in office, Senator Chambliss has led efforts to update multiple codes and laws affecting the Engineering profession. Some of the most notable legislation that was spearheaded by Senator Chambliss was the Qualification Based Selection (QBS) Administrative Code change and the Rebuild Alabama Act, funding to upgrade Alabama’s aging infrastructure.
Congratulations Senator Chambliss and Thank You for representing our great profession in the halls of the Alabama State House!!
